Product Review: Pocket (6/10)
According to 📊statistics, the average American consumes 369 minutes of content! That’s approximately 6.15 hours! With all the content that we consume, how do we keep track of what is important and what isn't? How can we prioritize all the information that we get when we are so busy with everything going on around us? What if you came across a $10,000 scholarship sweepstake article while scrolling the media during class? How will you remember applying for it when you get back home? You could set a reminder but might lose access to the link to the article. To save all that hassle, you download Pocket of course!
Pocket is a free service that makes it easy to discover great content, save it, and then return to it later – on any device, at any time. Think "Buy now, Pay later" but instead, Pocket allows you to "Save it now, Enjoy it later."
Pocket's layout is clean. There is a "homepage" icon that allows you to take a look at the news that you are interested in reading and have saved over time on the platform. The "discovery" icon allows you to browse different news content by reading a little synopsis on what the article covers and then save it depending on if you are interested in reading it later or not. If you find something really interesting, you can share it, recommend it, and even export it onto your phone. Pocket gives you an interface not only to keep track of the links you're saving but also for a clean reading experience. When you save links to Pocket, your links can be viewed either as a list or as a grid. Pocket really excels in this. It offers articles and blog posts in a paired down the ad-free interface. This makes for a more pleasant reading experience and offers a consistent experience across devices.
Pocket's function not only allows you to prioritize and organize the news, articles, and information you want to read but also allows you to listen to it on the go. With the listening feature, the user can easily access their saved news and listen to it while 🚗 driving, taking 🚕 🚎 🚂 public transport, or even 🚶🏻♂️walking. Pocket has a robust tagging system. This lets you sort articles into multiple categories and find them easily later. Pocket Premium will even download copies of your links, so if the original is changed or deleted, you can keep the information for your own reference. It functions as your personal database of sources that you can refer back to over and over. You can use it for casual reading, but it's also built to work as a reference tool.
Product Hat: While Pocket is a good choice for saving articles and stories, its limited scope makes it unsuitable as a true productivity app. Currently Pocket only allows your queue to be sorted in 4 ways: newest, oldest, title, and site. With the suggested ⏰ time-required feature, this would obviously be an added way to sort the queue. Another added sort function would be through the time sensitivity feature, which would sort items based on when they are set to trigger a reminder. One feature request that we would recommend implementing is having the ability to drag and reorder items in the queue and make them appear in the user's own way in a "sort by Custom" filter so that they can personally prioritize which item they want to 📖read/listen👂🏼 first.
We @Berkpress give Pocket a 6.5/10. The app isn't solving a huge problem however, it is nice to have on the phone📱 for reading purposes.
